ELI5- What is gaslighting?

My husband does this with me. We just had an argument the other day and he was using manipulation to convince me I was wrong. I stood my ground as long as I could. The more I stood my ground the more angry he got and yelled and twisted things. He says things like no reasonable person would see it that way, or you often misremember things, and he kept saying if I don't believe his version I must think he is a lier and so I must be calking him a lier. He spent so long trying to convince with me and plead with me to admit I was wrong. I finally gave in because I wanted him to leave me alone. The next day my 14 year old asked me why we were fighting. She was there when it started and I explained a little. She said, "but mom you are right, your version is right." She knows he has issues and she is very mature, otherwise I would not talk to her about it. I also don't want her to end up in a relationship like mine. I want to tell him but I am afraid he would hound her about it and make her think she is wrong too. The thing is I am not totally sure my husband does this to be mean to me personally but it is part of his personality. I hear him do it to co-workers and his parents. He is never wrong.
