England fans clash in Lens

I said this would happen.

England's troublemakers were mostly at home due to passport confiscation. The Russian trouble gave them a new energy to get over there by hook or by crook.

This always happens which is why I said it at the time. Russians embarrassed the English. Even on /r/soccer which has almost no knowledge or time for hooligan culture, people were remarking about how the Russians were "proper hooligans" with their MMA gloves unlike the English who were "cowards and lager louts". So on the mind of the English firms they were being challenged, belittled and slagged off because they weren't there.

The backlash was always going to happen. Now they ran the Russians off leaving a trail of gumshields behind them, they'll go after the Police and any local groups.

This really isn't rocket science. The Russians attacked the English to prove themselves, the English then ran off the Russians to prove themselves. It's a testosterone fuelled alpha male culture. This idea of "it's all the Russians fault" or "it's all the English fault" is dumb because you're looking at single battles in an ongoing war.

Of course there will be a Russian and French response to this in a few days, then everyone will again talk about how the English are victims. They're not. People who go to watch football regardless of nationality are the victims.

I'd also like to point out the hypocrisy from a few nations I've seen on here. Little stories in their newspapers about how they're angels and well behaved. Again, this defining of behaviour by nationalities is stupid and wouldn't pass muster in any other way. In fact in six months if someone were to post that all Swedes can't head the ball they'd probably be down voted heavily for making such generalisations. But the same is happening here as on the streets of France. The Euros makes "an enemy" of other countries like they're league rivals so this nationalist language takes hold. I find it funny that people who might not be well versed in this culture are talking about how he great certain countries are. There's no country in the competition that doesn't have this element in their support, they just haven't been sufficiently provoked as of yet.

There's not English and Russian and Slovaks and French. There's just the hooligans and us.
