Thicker skin? You're one of them, clearly.

Why would I ever want to play with anyone who calls other players retards? Who rages over a loss or a wipe? Who insults you over a simple mistake as if they themselves are above mistakes? Who lambastes a new player for not knowing the game?

Those people can take the fun out of a game.

I've been playing WoW Legion over the last few weeks as a tank. And honestly, I'm near giving it up. The best expansion since Wrath and I'm considering walking away because of the sheer amount of shit that spews from the mouths of so many toxic players when you're in a dungeon or raid. I love tanking, and I'm not bad. I actually thought I was sub-par because of the shit I kept getting, so I spec'd DPS thinking I'd fallen behind the curve and wanted to figure out what other people were doing so right that I was getting so wrong. You know what I learned? I was one of the more competent tanks out there. Of all the groups I ran, the number of tanks that knew the encounters, or new which mobs to tag, or were marking mobs at all was far below anything I had imagined given the amount of shit that came my way while I was tanking. I go in, I give notes and pointers, I mark primaries, I hold my aggro, I do my job well. But no matter how hard I try, no matter how well I do, there's some fuckhead mouthing off because they caught a cleave from the boss, or because you marked a mob they thought shouldn't have been primary, or they start pulling shit because they think you're not fast enough despite the fact that the heals are undergeared and the pulls they expect you to make would wipe the group, at which point they'd be pissed off that you pulled too much. And all the while, their mistakes hide in obscurity.

Toxic players ruin the atmosphere of a game. They make other players not want to play. Why in the fuck would anyone support such behavior in any capacity? Why would you enable it?
