Everything is not about race, gender, or Trump: the media is going overboard with pushing alarmist social justice rhetoric into everything.

I don't think this is an unpopular opinion. It's like the main reason why Donald Trump, of all people, was elected. In fact, I think most left-leaning people would generally agree with you (or at least your title). I don't agree with some of your points, but even as someone who cares VERY deeply about equality, I don't literally apply social politics to every single facet of life. I think that idea comes from a warped perspective caused by the media, because outrage sells. Hardly anyone is actually THAT irrational social justice. But when someone is, it makes an interesting story, so it gets reported on every single time.

He has only been in office 3 months!

I don't want to go into a rant about Trump, but I think it's important to talk about this. Trump has done more seriously alarming shit in those 3 months than is typical of a new president at all.

  • He makes regular attempts to force a blatantly unconstitutional Muslim ban (I'm sure some of you will argue it's not a "Muslim" ban, but we all know it is. The politically correct arguments Trump uses to defend it are obviously just loophole attempts).

  • He's proposing to cut funds to Education, the EPA, and many other important government agencies to fund an absolutely useless and unaffordable border wall. He churned out a healthcare plan that is almost universally disliked by conservatives and liberals alike, and will risk thousands of lives.

  • He and his administration directly and unapologetically tell blatant lies that can be debunked with a quick Google search, on a nearly daily basis (then refuse to take any responsibility whatsoever and shift blame on the media).

  • And considering everything we've heard from Comey and the briefings that just happened, it's basically 99% likely that something extremely alarming is happening between him and the Russians. Whether it's a full-blown conspiracy, or just some bribery or conflict of interest, we should not be okay whatsoever. Whether or not you believe the allegations, you need to understand that people are making a big deal out of it because we are genuinely scared for the safety and integrity of our country IF they are true. There are numerous, valid reasons to believe they are, so I don't think that's unreasonable at all.

I like to think that I've been giving him a fair chance, and I truly hope I'm wrong about how poisonous he's been, but there is SO. MUCH. to be angry about. And the fact that it's only been 3 months makes it worse, not more excusable. The media certainly blows petty shit out of proportion (like Conway sitting on the oval office coach in an informal way), but that's just filled in between genuinely terrifying news. I think people let those stories fuel their defenses of Trump way too easily.

I also hate how everything has to turn into some feminist lecture. Like the crap about crosswalk signs or emojis being somehow sexist.

I consider myself somewhat of a "feminist", and I still agree with you. Like I said earlier, outrage sells. Most people are not crazy enough to feel oppressed by a crosswalk sign. But when a handful of people do? That's surely an entertaining and controversial story, so the news is all over it. Rinse and repeat the same old shit for months, and you'll feel like you're surrounded by hyper-sensitive weirdos. If I were you, I would ignore articles like that and talk to real people in your life more often. It's a very inaccurate representation of public opinion.

Even when the outrage IS real, opinions are typically far more nuanced than the articles can convey them. "Outrage" usually translates to "mild annoyance". That's just sensationalism.

In my opinion stuff like this is detrimental to women because it makes us all look stupid and weak for being so preoccupied with first world problems. It's also an issue of crying wolf all the time.

Absolutely, 100% agree.

Now people are also trying to push transgender crap into everything. As if the whole of society has to stop and make sure everything revolves around this tiny fringe population and its problems.

This I do NOT agree with. Transgendered people are getting the metaphorical shit kicked out of them these days. There certainly is a lot to find out regarding the phenomenon, but just imagine how fucking miserable life has to be right now as a transgender person. At least half of everyone you come across every single day is judging you, assuming you are the way you are because you just want attention, and probably assume you're some kind of pervert. Not to mention how many trans people get straight-up disowned, or even abused by their family.

I think people have an automatic response to roll their eyes every time trans people show up in popular media, because it feels inherently political and preachy, but I think at the very least it serves to make trans people feel a little more welcome into this world. That's certainly worth the price of feeling lectured occasionally, in my opinion. I mean, how often do you even see it in anything outside of the news? I remember a YouTube ad and maybe a TV show or two featuring trans characters, but other than that, it hasn't invaded my life any more than simply seeing a trans person at the grocery store. I just don't buy that transgender politics are being "forced" into "everything," like people say.
