Father-Son Bonding

Yeah, because that's the primary purpose of 50,000 watts of lighting on 50 ft poles, night maintenance.

Firstly, those look to be 1500 watts at most, which is fairly common sports lighting. Primary purpose? No. very common use, yes. Especially when only one set of poles is turned on.

You're a special kind of thick.

You don't seem to understand what is being said here. I'm not saying that it never happens or even that it's rare for people to be using the field at night. I know it happens, I'm pointing out the argument that would be used in court.

From a layman perspective of someone who knows nothing of baseball who is just driving past, it's not reasonable to assume he'd be facing the chance at getting a baseball to the car. Between it being night time, the fact that many places have their lights on even when no baseball is happening, and even if they look at the field there's only two people there so it's a pretty good case.

Then, from the raised fencing, it also looks like they're batting from the pitcher's mound towards home base, the opposite direction of where someone should be hitting the ball when the field is in use. So even if you're thinking "that field is in use" you look at where the batter should be standing and see nobody; then a ball comes at you from where the pitcher is supposed to be. Again, pretty good case.

But as I mentioned in my first post, for things like this it usually depends on the state and the precedent from previous cases. Most likely those two are stand-up people and willing to cover the mistake given their reaction.
