Fathers of Reddit, what did your daughter's boyfriend do for you to hate/love him?

To give some preamble my significant other had a very tough childhood, and yet is the kindest most incredibly caring person I have ever met. The hell shes fought out of to get where she is now reminds me every day to fight harder because nothing I'm dealing with is a fraction of what she had to.

Her "mother" however is very traditional and protective - naturally - and so I had to go many times out of my way to follow through her wishes and honestly that was never the problem. However for the time being we live a town apart since she goes to the state college, and sometimes had to go weeks without speaking do to circumstance and so every-time we did and I was sitting alone missing her I would write a thought, draw a picture, hell id write song lyrics - anything that reminded me of her. I had this beautiful leather hand-bound journal made with a a poem on the cover that truly reflected her. Eventually as things got better I gave it to her, along with a brass compass engraved with the coordinates of where we would go watch the sunrise together when we first met and a few other memories. Of course she loved it and thus made me incredibly happy.

Well you must be saying - "Her mother must have loved you!". Nope. One day she found the journal and decided to read it (Go privacy!) and concluded from my midnight ramblings that I was by all means - a crazy (potentially homicidal) stalker. Mind you this was a solid year into the relationship and she knew about. So she threw out the journal and went great-firewall-of-china on all of her accounts.

Luckily Im an app developer and I hid a messaging client in a fake flappy-bird game - SO FUCK 'Er :)

tl'dr Grand romantic gesture -> im a stalker -> now we chat with flappy bird
