I think you need to talk to him about the underlying reasons behind this. Why does not having a job make him miserable? Of course, everybody wants to contribute financially for their family’s sake but there could be many reasons why it bothers him in particular.

Is it merely not being able to contribute, despite y’all doing relatively okay? If yes, does he feel this way because of the social expectation of men to be providers? Is he comparing himself to others he knows that have jobs?

Is it because his identity is tied to his job such that not having a job makes him lose a sense of self?

Is it the boredom of being home and not having much to do?

It’s likely that its a combination of these factors, but talk to him and get him a therapist ASAP
