Although in an ideal society, you should have handed her to Police. But knowing how police inhumanely treats people in India, you did good. And anyways!! Police would have also taken some bribe from her parents, emotionally tortured her, maybe slapped her too and then would have let her go.

OP don’t feel bad about what you did. Most of the people here have never interacted with police, when police has strong leverage over them. Most people here have interacted with police, where police treated them with respect and human courtesy. These guys don’t understand that those privileges are not meted out to everyone.

Police in this country are inhumane. Even before you are produced before a magistrate, the way they treat you like a piece of human garbage, is far worse than what any judge will impose for this crime.
