Finally watched Venom: Let There be Carnage. And i'm just left here wondering... How did they make Venom and Carnage so scary and intense in a 90's saturday morning cartoon, and yet turned them into a rushed joke in a big budget 2021 blockbuster movie

Ive gotta admit it, even though i wasnt born in the 90's, i watched everything spiderman related and even read into the comics, and even though people here say its goofy, the thought of carnage travelling from telephone lines really spooked me as a kid. As a kid, both venom and carnage, even in cartoon format, scared the crap outta me, and seeing venom on the bigscreen back in 2007 gave me a phobia of symbiotes and really fucking scared the shit outta me. But yeah, i watched VLTBC, and its safe to say, even though they look scarier in comparison to their comic and cartoon counterparts, this depiction was defintely done to make venom and carnage appeal to younger audiences as friendly and more approachable, as to sort of view them in the same light as heroes and villians, not things youd be having nightmares about as a kid when you leave the theatre. Also it doesnt help that sony has the same family-friendly technique as disney does, and so they do not want to risk producing a r-rated movie for adults because nowadays aliens and heroes generate more overall profit with the younger generation included. This is what happens when greedy profit maximising corporations get their hands on something that you dearly admire, so yes, to conclude, even though venom 1 was dogshit in terms of the overalm storyline and symbiote lore, it still netted a good enough profit for sony, so obviously why change it up when you can repeat the same formula and get better results?

I agree with op on this, since i can sympathize with his frustration on how big screen movies manage to butcher beloved characters.
