17 years ago today, 'Spider-Man 2' released! This is widely considered one of the best superhero films of all time if not the greatest and one of the best sequels ever made. What are your thoughts on this film?

I get that.

Oddly enough, the only film that does not hold up to nostalgia for me is Spider-Man 3.

I LOVE the first Raimi films, but I cant defend 3.

I think the silliness got too much in 3.

There are shades of that silliness in the first two, but it felt organic.

For 3, it felt like they were just trying to copy and paste what worked in the first two and then shove Venom in there. I cant explain why 3's silly tone feels different than the first two.

I think it's because there was still a really honest story for the first two.

In 3, there are so many plot contrivances. It's ridiculous. Characters act in ways that make very little sense. That's the main difference for me, as I recollect my thoughts.

Silly as they could be, the first 2 Spidey films had grounded stories. Even the first one with its silly Goblin plot still managed to ground itself around Peter's growth as a young man. The evil father figure in Osborn, and how Peter grows to accept the consequences of heroism.

Too much weird stuff just happens in 3. It feels very much like a movie where things are forced to happen instead coming from a natural conclusion of things.

(For example, take Brock's death. Possibly the most rushed villain death in history).
