A fire fighter I know just sent this about Kensington fire.

I buy 'fire-sensitive' products for a major engineering project (not building construction). Safe to say that it is a massive deal to get it right. It's inconceivable to me that people would pick something knowingly flammable to cut corners. If we can't get hold of one of our approved products, even if it'll hold up the programme for a month, then everyone from exec down accepts that.

I did just check some of the MSDS for the products listed above:

  • PPC Aluminium RAL 7012 - RAL 7012 is the colour choice. PPC means it's 'polyester powder coated'. Can't track a specific datasheet for that. The aluminium is literally aluminium so obviously non-combustible and complies with Class ‘0’ spread of flame to BS 476-4 (i.e. non-flamable).
  • Duragloss 5000 claims to have passed ASTM E84 with Class A (near best, lowest flame spread)
  • PPC Aluminium RAL 7705 "Mouse Grey": See first. Different colour.
  • RAL 9010 “Pure White” Matt (PAINT) - This doesn't narrow down to a manufacturer or brand. RAL 9010 is a colour pallet option only. However, it is paint.
  • RAL 6018 “May Green” Matt: See above.
  • BCM GRC Cladding BCM 262-S-HY GRC: I.e. Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete. Claims to be non-combustible on a COSHH assessments I've found - but can't access the MSDS for some reason.
