Glad you made it out. I think it's save to call them a cult. I grew up in a family of Jehovah's Witnesses too, and it took me a while to get rid of the indoctrinated thinking patterns. They want to control every aspect of your life and even your thoughts, telling you everybody who doesn't go knocking on doors will die in armageddon, "and those slain by Jehovah in that day will be from one end of the earth clear to the other end of the earth. They will not be mourned, nor will they be gathered up or buried. They will become like manure on the surface of the ground." In my congregation there was an elder who was known for putting his foot in the door of people who didn't want to hear it, shouting this exact bible verse at them.

Jehovah's Witnesses are an apocalyptic cult, plain simple.
