Metacritic is an aggregator for critics like say rotten tomatoes for movies. The PC crowd you are talking about maybe involves user reviews which should be entirely ignored, steam reviews are usually accurate to the PC release which everyone knows is shit. Angry joe also said the game was average, expanding on it being a repetitive grind which is exactly how I felt and he praised the music/story cutscenes which is what you said are is its strengths. ACG who is my favorite reviewer told people to wait for a sale. I think overall most reviews end up on the 70/60 side which can be considered average for a 60$ game. The last two games have definitely been hurt by being rushed(even though I think Mafia 2 is really good) and should have had more time to get a better game out. It depends what people like, personally I'm a cheap bastard and don't want to spend 50 pounds on a game that doesn't gets good reviews by angry joe or ACG.
