A friend of mine ripped a physical disc that he legitimately owns for the movie Eighth Grade, put out by Liongate, and partway through it stopped and placed an anti-piracy warning on the screen. Is this new or common for certain companies?

Yeah, I’m pretty sure Dazed and Confused became a cult classic because of HBO and Blockbuster. Most of those kids sitting around getting stoned watching it on VHS recorded it from HBO to watch when they wanted to. I’ve worked in and out of the Austin, Vancouver and Hollywood film scenes since 1994 and I don’t remember anyone praising VHS bootleggers for saving that or any film. Still, if you have the news articles to back ip that claim, I’ll eat those words. But tons of films found new life legitimately because of HBO, Disney Channel, even TNT. And now Netflix (but less so on other streaming services).

But, jeez man, who pissed in your Wheaties?
