I think that is probably the case, too.

A very annoying thing happened in the UK a couple of years ago. The BBC always made its radio streams available via TuneIn, which - like music services - could use multi-room. A standard morning for me had BBC Radio 4 (news/current affairs) playing everywhere as I went about my business.

At the same time, you could listen via BBC Sounds, their own streaming platform. They discovered they got more listener information this way, so they withdrew their streams from TuneIn, forcing everyone to use BBC Sounds. Which at the time was vastly inferior (it has improved) and - being just a skill to the Echo system - would no longer use multi-room.

Against howls of protest, the BBC said that the change would help them improve services. For my part, it just meant I switched to their rival, LBC, which still supports multi-room.
