Future of Voat

Realistically?

Voat continues to get swamped - they can't afford to expand/extend their servers and bandwidth this rapidly; and it's probably better to wait and see how much things die down/off.

After that, they ask for donations, etc...while there's an impressive outpouring, initially, they discover that trolls and 14 year olds feelin' their quasi-intellectual oats don't pay well over the long run.

They either go "Fuck it, sorry! Can't afford this." and shut down, or turn off new users with an unreponsive website while maintaining what infrastructure they can.

Eventually they hit parity, and enough folk stick around to build fledgling communities, or they don't, and Voat can go back to paying $10/mo to make a point to Reddit and the rest of the Ferocious Interwebs.

You assume right off the bat that it'll become stable - I find that far more unlikely than not.

Far as your other comments - I'm gonna go ahead and just...disagree.

I'm older guard than the mid 90's babies, I've had a harder life than a lot of people, and frankly - "nasty" subs are as useful for me to read as the "hugbox" stuff.

I think it'd be useful to others, as well - how the hell do you achieve a balanced look at life if you never have the courage, strength, or rationality to see it from the other angles available?

People have been doing some fucked up stuff for uncounted millenia - the archaeologists and anthropologists are still playing catch-up.

It's just more visible, and easy to react when all you have to do is bitch, moan, click, and type...

So - embrace reading and understanding and trying to put yourself in their fucked up, "nasty" shoes - because oftentimes; as many of us know, one of the simplest ways to understand something is to take it apart and look at it.

(All that said, I'm so exhausted I can barely see straight, but a lot of these topics have been irritating me since I finally sat down - I hope my writing is adequate, and don't take too much personally or being antagonistic. Just tired. And sore. And fuck thistles.)
