No, false. People in the community have been saying for years that hyperrealistic graphics won't work (unless it's a spinoff with an art direction similar to what eventually became Detective Pikachu the Movie). People just want something reasonably pretty to look at.

Go no further than Xenoblade, or, as a more familiar series for me personally, Soulsborne and Armored Core! FromSoftware games have ALWAYS been somewhat behind on technological level. They also have always had at least one "Blighttwon" area or pretty noticeable performance issues on their target consoles (PS3, PS4). But you could hardly tell FromSoftware were behind and you were (and are to this day!) willing to get through unstable FPS because there was a game behind all of that.

Pokémon games used to be like that. I would argue even such controversial games as XY and USUM/S&M were still amazing and competently crafted games. Sw/Sh, S/V? Nah, that's some COD level shit
