Gideon Haigh: Watching Cricket – Now a Vehicle for the Political Elite

It's fair to disagree with Haigh, I do too often.

Naming a stadium after yourself and then hosting a political rally during a test in that very stadium is to most neutral observers the kinda thing that a tinpot dictator does. We have always had politicians in BCCI before, but the son of the right hand man of the PM running BCCI is too direct a political link. You might personally be ok with it, but it's really icky for people who are not. I did think that the Aussie PM got far less stick even though he also was very clearly milking the cricket for political gain too. The prev Aus PM being in a group chat with Cummins and Langer is also gross the same way.
