Grandma accidentally invites stranger to Thanksgiving dinner, says he can come anyways

There's an elderly man with the same name as me, which is not really common, and people send me emails all the time to [email protected] thinking it's him, usually sad stuff about someone from their childhood (class of '42!) passing away or being diagnosed with cancer or something. I finally got his real email address after a reply-all letting everyone know I'm not the guy they are looking for.

So I began forwarding all his emails to him and chatting with him here and there and he's just a lovely kind old man! I was on a trip a couple winters ago and was going to be in his area, so I shot him an email asking how the weather was and how the snow was looking and after some back and forth he invited me to come have dinner with him and his wife. I thought it was a little weird, but I said fuck it and went and had so much fun. They were the sweetest old people you could imagine, like from a book. I never had grandparents so I've never spent time with anyone that would be a grandparent (or great-grandparent at that), and I totally felt that Grandparent Love people talk about.

We still talk often and we send each other xmas cards now. It's wonderful. All because of a typo in an email address.
