This guy almost hit me a couple times. Then he passed about 3 of us in the turn lane, up a hill, going about 80mph. Normally wouldn’t say anything but couldn’t help myself today.

I never said it in conversation, but I would speak lyrics with it on them like it wasn't a problem. And nobody ever said anything, even though most of my friends didn't have a problem letting each other know when something was out of line.

About 6-ish years ago, though, I was on the phone with a friend, singing a Snoop song and I let it slip. I immediately stopped and said "Heyyyy, so... I shouldn't say that anymore even in lyrics should I?" And she was kind of quiet for a second then told me "Yeah, I really think that time has past. Please don't do that anymore."

And that's how I started saying things like "She ain't messing with no broke neighbors."

I think as we grow up and we're exposed to more of the racial issues beyond our own streets or groups of friends, we start expecting better out of everyone, especially ourselves and people we love.
