My parents were just like you. They lived off whatever resources got brought in by Hatchet and his men while contributing nothing. They were endlessly bitching because they didn't get more protection, more food, more housing. They were weak. They lived through the apocalypse only because Hatchet took them in, and behind his guards and his men and the heroes of FCC Hampshire, and he asked nothing of them in return. It was his duty, he said, to protect the weak. That's fine, to a point, but then he had the strong feeding the weak, housing the weak, building for them. The duties of the strong never ended, but they turned further and further from protection or furthering their nation to...looking inward at their lowest and treating them like royalty. What infuriated me was that my parents were able-bodied, and at least well enough to hold a rifle at any rate or dry tobacco leaves, but they chose to do nothing.
We get people like you from time to time, even at the start of FCC Smith they thought they'd have it easier here. Traditionally, we offloaded them back at Hampshire as 'washouts' and let them continue begging off others' charity over there. And the FCC Hampshire could sustain that, for a time, but it was an imbalanced figure. When Salem and Princess kicked in the front door, it was mostly rotten timbers being all that was holding that institution up, and it collapsed. And like rats escaping a sinking ship you found your way here, and became my problem.
Now, with our reduced child production, we cannot spare a single soldier to die needlessly where the requirement is effectively 'a warm body standing in the right place,' or 'someone to lift an object into place so the artillery is aimed in the right place.' It hardly need be a scout or true FCC Soldier to do that. All we ask is in times of national emergency, you stand alongside your brethren and fight alongside those who guard you while you sleep. Like a National Guard that's all-inclusive. We demand that you otherwise work a job that contributes economically. If you can't do that, then what fucking good are you?
But this is an embarrassment and I won't tolerate it.
Track her down and bring her home. She will be charged with Treason. We don't have lawyers here. She will argue her own defense.
