The sub underwent a massive nerf for technology- nukes and missiles and aircraft all went away. This means new settlements are generally capped at 250 unless you clear it with a mod. Size is limited to a few square miles, similarly, to prevent what happened when RoC took up the entire damn East Coast and sort of squatted on it.
RoC imploded in a coup then fell to zombies thanks to Cats- never forget her noble sacrifice in freeing up over half the population of the USA's homeland.

Mad Dog of Mad Dog's Caravan (Benjaminsankt) died but his killer died themselves, throwing the line of succession into doubt.
The FCC is finally a reality- We have all five colleges up and running, each with a different writer and different set of skills being provided. Has_A_Hatchet, however, is presumed dead.

Order of the Blades- really badass knights wandering around the deep South.
AMR/RRR- really cool country held together by railroad lines. They hold small territorial patches but those patches are utterly held- e.g., wherein zombies existed within RoC territory, AMR/RRR does not have zombies within their claimed territories. They link together via railway. Lots of manufacturing, lots of old tech.
Bailey joined- badass warrior chick from the early days of the apocalypse.
We also have Little Miss Salem, a natural-born Church of the Zed God gal who was half-infected. She can control zombie hordes. It's kinda awesome. Odds are good that she's a lesbian.
We have Jaykov, head of 40,000 soldiers, going on the warpath after having gone utterly nuts.
Spootin's in training again so his character/nation, while still alive, are just kinda 'around.' RoT is active- sorta.
Beachbum's around doing beachbum things in his beachbum airship.
I just lost the rest of what I wrote, but there are many PC's in FCC Smith who are instructing others, including Viking who I'm sure you remember.
