I heard a very strange sound behind my bookcase. It was a gecko killing a cockroach.

My family and my dad's coworker's/friend's family went to the Andaman and Nicobar islands for vacation when I was 9. It was a 2 week long vacation and we were going to stay on many different islands during the that time. So, one day, we went to Havelock island. Now, Havelock island was very little developed and did not have basic facilities like supermarkets or schools (although there was one of the best seafood restaurants I've been to). People living there use the ferry to get groceries and shit. The hotel we were going to stay in did not have any rooms. Instead of rooms, they had tents by the beach. The island was that remote. (This was in 2003. The island apparently is much more developed now)

So, the guide was showing us the tent we were going to stay in, and when we reached there, my parents started asking questions about the island and how people live there etc etc. Since I was 9 years old, I got really bored and started wandering around while the adults talked. So, I was standing by the beach and looking at the sea, when all of a sudden I hear my dad's friend's wife scream. She said something like, "c190! Under your feet! UNDER YOUR FEET!" I looked at where my parents were and I saw my dad coming at me to pick me up. Then I looked down, and what I saw was a giant centipede (must've been a foot long and 2-3 inches wide, dark orange) rolling over in such a way that it at first looked like a scorpion's tail. I got scared and ran away as soon as I saw the fucker I was standing on. It did not bite me, but I think it was about to bite me as it was curling over to reach my leg. That left me scared for the rest of the vacation. I couldn't sleep peacefully that night (especially because I was in a tent). Had the centipede bitten me, I would've probably been in a lot of trouble as there was no hospital on that island.

Since then I'm petrified of centipedes. There's nothing I'm more scared of than centipedes. They are like venomous snakes with spider like fangs and legs. Fuck them!
