Hemophiliac describes how HIV affected his community back in the 80s- and how pharmaceutical companies caused a pandemic

Hooooooooly shit. I'm the OP of the thread in r/history. I woke up this morning, checked reddit, and saw my post at the top of r/bestof. Thank you u/erectus_ for the exposure.

I'd like to say a few things, since I'm here. First off, as a historian (or at least history student) I have to be very careful not to make claims that I cannot prove and to write in a "safe" style that goes relatively light on value judgments. As a human being and a person with hemophilia, I can tell you it is absolutely my belief that these people were sold out and that there is a lot of blood on the hands of certain doctors, agencies, and corporations. Reading your responses has reminded me of that, and has actually inspired me to beef up my conclusion and take out some of the weasel-words. It's made me more confident that I really know this subject after living with it so long, and that makes all the difference between a confident thesis and a "safe" one. The hemophilia community deserves the truth after what happened, so thank you for that.

Secondly, I'd like to point out that I don't endorse any anti-vaxx theories of medicine. Although these stories look superficially similar to a layperson, there is a world of difference between the hemophilia HIV epidemic and the largely manufactured and fake vaccine hysteria. These comparisons are quite frankly insulting to every person with hemophilia who was infected with HIV. In my eyes, doctors who perpetuate this overblown paranoia of vaccines are acting irresponsibly, just as doctors who did not warn their patients of the risks of factor were also acting irresponsibly.

Thanks for reading my work, everyone. I'll try to post again when I finish my paper in about a month's time.
