It's a cultural thing mostly, though in the end religion is always the excuse given. We simply owe the poor women it's happening to the chance to be seen. And by making it an Islamic only problem, when it is not, a lot of them don't get help. In particular, the taboo against discussing it in Sierra Leone is so high that they never do. And over 98% of Christian women are mutilated there. Since they don't talk about it, if we choose not to talk about it, all those little girls will be left behind.

Here in America? Yeah, it's mostly Muslims, but there are immigrant Christian populations that do it too. I don't want one little girl destroyed for life because people are looking for reasons to hate Muslims. Everyone can get in the line of fire who mutilates little girls.

And instead of everyone getting pissed about my statement that it is only prevalent where the Abrahamic religions exist, which I stand by, I'm going to go full Gowdy and ask anyone who keeps getting pissed about it to stand up and defend their defense of cutting when it's done by others than Muslims. Stand up there and answer that little girl who's screaming and bleeding and Christian and tell her why she doesn't matter. It's disgusting, no matter who is doing it. And anyone trying to hide those existence, and in some cases prevalence, of those little girls to make the problem fit some agenda is likewise disgusting.

All you have to say is "It's a predominantly Muslim problem these days" and I'd be satisfied and people would ask the question. But the blanket pretending that it's Muslim only puts girl children in very real danger and is often stated as fact so commonly that it is nearly misinformation.
