Historical fight: Miyamoto Mushashi vs Richard the Lionheart

Richard I (8 September 1157 – 6 April 1199). As a king, he would have the finest chainmail armour, horse, and sword. He would not carry a shield as a king. His sword would be on par if not inferior to the katana of the 1600's. It wasn't until mid 1300's that Europe started to make the jump into awesome armour and swords.

Miyamoto Musashi (宮本 武蔵, c. 1584 – June 13, 1645). Started off as nothing and worked his way up to high nobility as a military tactician, combat veteran, and through many duels. As he gained the title of samurai, he moved from the long sword to his person style of using two swords. He would have among the best armour available at the time, which would be just as good as chainmail in terms of protection. The armour would have faster movements, allow more range of motion, and while weighing slightly more would be better distributed across the body.

Musashi was a warrior whom won duels against far bigger, old, and more experienced warriors as a teenager. While Richard is a noted Crusader, he did little actual fighting himself. Being of such high nobility, it is better that he be granted 'mercy' and ransomed; rather than die in combat. As with many of Musashi's duels, I can see Musashi taking the fight to the ground and ultimately render a limb combat ineffective; or using blunt force trauma. After which, Musashi would kill that person using one of the three blades that samurai of his status would keep on their person at all times.
