Homelessness in Ottawa

I get the frustration and the anger but I believe it’s directed at the wrong people. It’s not that the public “doesn’t care” it’s that we can’t do anything to help. The city certainly can but citizens can only do so much and when we try and help there are some homeless people who get legit aggressive when they’re given anything but money.

As a society whenever people congregate together they feed off each others vibes and emotions. With the shelters downtown being so close to each other and let’s be real; sketchy and dangerous, homeless folks learn to fend for themselves in any way possible

What Ottawa should be doing is spreading out homeless shelters throughout the city, one in each area (Orleans,DT,Nepean etc.) this gives homeless people a chance to go somewhere safe that’s not downtown where drugs/alcohol are rampant. Everyone deserves somewhere safe at night but they won’t get it downtown Ottawa.

Apathy? No. Desensitized? Maybe but in the end the city needs a concrete plan and money to execute it.
