Housing in New Brunswick, why so cheap?

I've been there, in nice weather, and it was beautiful. But it had a cottage country vibe, the whole province. Like, not much there, if you're not into adventure. Multiple people told us to visit the longest bridge in the world. It was cool, but not what I was expecting since it was a huge deal. Super small towny vibe. I was staying with a female friend in the same bed to save money, wasn't treated too well, it was blatant. Can imagine how the gay population feels. Also had a lot of french speakers, who didn't know English. That would be my main reason not to move there, because at least in Montreal most french speakers can also speak a bit of English to get by, but not everywhere in NB. (I didn't even know that when I visited). My uncle moved there with his family and he likes it, but my cousins hate it and are begging to come back to Ontario.
