How to afford a nursing home for one grandparent without the other losing everything

How quick is that process? I think the problem now is that they’ve avoided this for so long, that he’s on his LAST legs. Had a heart attack (has had 3 in his life and a stroke) this week and was admitted for a few days, just sent home. But he doesn’t walk, can’t stand in his own, wears a diaper, etc. He shouldn’t be home, but I don’t expect him to be around more than a few months, maybe even a few weeks. Enrolling in Medicaid seems like a long government process.

I think $1400/month plus savings should be fine in theory if the savings is still there. My understanding is her insurance premium sucks up most of it. But she has no house or car payments.
