How to Become a Utahn

There are many reasons not to move to Utah. I would like to say overall my experience moving here has been negative. I loved the weather, the scenery and the landscape, but that's where my love ends. The only thing I'm thankful for about the people here is that they are generally very conservative and it's a safe place to raise children. As other posts have stated rent is high. Cost of living overall is high and covid was the ONLY thing that has made employers pay closer to a living wage. Many jobs paid scraps under 8.00 an hour. It can be very clique like of you're not Mormon or blonde you won't fit many places. My mixed race family made the mistake of renting a home in Kaysville (we are not Mormon) my children were bullied at school even by staff who refused to do anything to help my children who were being singled out and bullied by other children because of how they look and dress. On job interviews I've experienced the question what level are you in the church and then told that position was specifically for a specific member of the LDS. I've had refusal to even be interviewed for a rehire job, had the corporate office of the company from out of state make an interview appointment after reviewing my application and when I showed up the local hire didn't want to interview me. Corporate said I worked for the company previously in another state and wanted to rehire me but in person they weren't having it. I never got a call back, or a reason why they would not hire me. There are certain areas where people are less.... Just less and it's not so stuck up and exclusive. Even people with tattoos will be treated differently here. Regardless of my negative feelings towards people who can't see past their own noses or accept people that are different than them, I can't think of anywhere else I'd rather be. Maybe the adversities give you strength and confidence. A positive attitude and eagerness to strive will get you anywhere.
