How Ferrari / Vettel makes decisions during a race

in a normal race, this wouldn't be ideal because the pitwall has access to such a plethora of data and simulations they should literally know the fastest way to drive the car.

in the wet? not so much i think. sure, they have a weather forecast that says "it might rain in a bit" - but really, what good is that?

if a driver says he can handle slicks, give him slicks. if a driver says it's wets, give him wets. why else would you hire a 4 time champion? because he knows how to drive the car and what the track is telling him.

not saying ferrari chose this approach given the conditions, but the whole appeal of the rain is that it boils(hah) things down to the driver - overwhelmingly so.
