How to overcome my ranked axiety?

Hey, I never knew of this sub, but since I've been summoned here I'll try to say something.

I have a friend who was Platinum 5 in Season 3, he stopped playing for almost a year, came back this month, we played some normals and then he decided to do his Bo10: went 1/4 by himself, I joined him and we won 2 more. Yeah..

Now he's Silver 2 looking to rank up (which he can easily, considering his level of play). But how does this relate? I'm not really sure, but it shows that it won't always be easy; the only thing you can do, if you really want to keep at it.. is keep at it.

Another thing I can say involves this same friend and a couple others, and not to waste your time I'll make it quick. When I first started playing, this friend of mine (let's name him "A") was Gold 3 and there was a second one ("B") who was Silver.. 3 too, I think. I was complete garbage but sometimes we would still play normals together (most times with other friends of theirs who met each other playing Dota). Since normal queue doesn't care about elos, sometimes I would be against Platinums or even Diamonds and it scared the shit out of me, I'd perform even worse than I would normally (if that was possible). I would ALWAYS get flamed, mocked, made fun of, you name it, for my poor performance; from A and B it was friendly, 'cause we're friends and we exchange compliments like "you're trash" all the time, but the other friends who I didn't know would do it just to be big, annoying douchebags, really. Also I was told I'd never leave Silver 5 and stuff like that..

After some time I decided to stop playing with them, not because I cared for what they said, but because I won't get anyone's shit.

Fast forward to when I'd been playing League for more than a year now the only one of them who can compare to me and say they've gotten to the same elo is friend A. (I'm Gold 5 currently, actually haven't gotten to Plat5 because I guess I'm just not into the game anymore and, for that, lost 3 Bo5 in a row, but that's something else).

I hope it wasn't too long of a story just to end up disappointing you, I'm still low elo and this and that, but that was my experience and I think it proves a point.

I'd say you have a few choices:

  • Stop playing, if you don't feel like it anymore.

  • Keep playing just for fun.

  • Give it your everything and just don't give up because you can always improve if you really want to.

Again, I hope it wasn't a waste of time and the last thing I can say is no one can tell you how good or bad you are at something but yourself. As said in GoT:- "A lion doesn't concern itself with the opinion of sheep."
