I know… I know this is a pro wrestling subreddit, but any comic fans in here? Could be Rock’s biggest movie?

I might be alone in this, but I'm kinda hitting the wall on The Rock.

I grew up watching the guy, and vividly remember a tag match at a live show during the NoD run, right when he was starting to figure it out, where he had the crowd so gripped by his antics on the apron they totally forget a match was going on in the ring. The guy was ludicrously charismatic.

But now...everything is so "on brand". If he's not whoring his liquor, then he's talking about how personal the material of his latest shitty blockbuster is to him. I think he's in that space Will Smith talked about being in back in the late-90s/early-2000s, where he passed up a lot of cool and interesting shit because the role wasn't heroic enough, or because he wasn't the biggest star, or because it didn't fit some industry equation on how he should be best positioning his brand.

In the early days of his career he would still take chances, but now he'd never be in a risqué/indie film like Southland Tales or a total psychopath like in Doom. Come to think of it, he'd be a perfect fit for Marvel movies these days: sterile, safe, and always on-brand.
