If you had to recommend one item in each makeup category to a beginner, what would it be?

  • Primer Eye: MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot. Trust me when I say I have tried all the primers I can get my hands on, and this is the only one that successfully creates a flawless base and makes my eyeshadows last.
  • Foundation Okay this one is tricky, but I'd have to go drugstore because I don't know any beginner that would immediately jump to my HG Chanel foundation right off the bat! I'd say Revlon Colourstay.
  • Concealer. NYX HD Concealer. Honestly this is my holy grail drugstore concealer and I absolutely adore it.
  • Setting Powder This is where I have to say go all out. I love the Urban Decay Loose Setting Powder (NAKED line). It's too amazing to mess with, and I think it's a good value for product.
  • Bronzer/Contour Now, I can only speak for fair folk such as myself (no circlejerk intended) but I love NYX Taupe for Contour. Considering I'm terrified of bronzer and looking like a dorito, I can't safely suggest a good bronzer as of yet.
  • Highlighter: MAC Mineralize Skinfinish all the way. It's a great way to get introduced to the highlighter world without having too much pigment to worry about abusing.
  • Blush MAC Mineralize Blush (NYX Baked Blush as a drugstore dupe). SO BEAUTIFUL! I can't.
  • Eyeshadow Urban Decay NAKED Basics Palette. It's a great start to creating a beautiful eye. The colours are mostly matte and blend really nicely.
  • Eyeliner For liquid, I would suggest NYX Collection Noir Liquid Eyeliner, and for pencil I would suggest an Urban Decay Perversion Eyeliner Pencil. Both are fantastic.
  • Mascara this is so tough. My first venture into mascara was with Rimmel, so I'd say start there.
  • Lipstick For the price point, NYX Lippies are FANTASTIC. No other comments needed.
  • Lipgloss NYX Butter Gloss. The only gloss I've been using lately. In love.
