If police are useless, why oppose defunding them?

Law enforcement is an important aspect of our society. Of course, the police aren't useless. We want to see improvements in accountability and training (such as requiring wearable cameras, holding bad policing under the light to learn from and show improvement). We want to see the police establish better relationships with the communities they are protecting and serving (particularly in large inner cities) rather than merely antagonize poor citizens and steal their drugs, money, and weapons (Baltimore "gun task force"). Most importantly, we want to see less of the 40 year old "war on drugs" that's done nothing but tear up communities. Focus on the major illegal drug traffickers, not the small time dime bags and marijuana/mushrooms usage.
