The "If Wenger Leaves We'll Become Like United" Fallacy

United fan here. A point I would make against you is that the rhetoric than SAF left a weak team is retrospective. At the time we were speaking of a team that had won the PL by 12 points and literally wondering how the hell could Moyes take a team that won the PL so comfortably all the way to 7th. Wasn't really until LVG came in and did mass sales that people started saying the squad was also a problem, not just Moyes.

With Arsenal right now it is easy to say your squad is not reaching their full potential, however how can you truly know this? None of your players except Alexis and Ozil can honestly say they have proven elsewhere to be better than what they're showing right now. You may hire someone new, see them fail, and then begin to think (just as man utd fans do now) that the squad was actually just bad/ past it. Of course this would then be a board issue and at least if you fail at some point it would force your board into more investment for the squad so long term would work out. Just some food for thought.
