If you were put in charge of a new series of Mortal Kombat movies, how would you handle them?

(continued)

Goro appears, holding Kung Lao's dead torso, and announces foulplay from the Earthrealm warriors. He says that Kung Lao, Johnny, and Sonya attacked him in his quarters, trying to sabotage the tournament. In response to this, Shang Tsung happily disqualifies Sonya, and acknowledges Kung Lao's death as another loss for Earthrealm. With this, Liu Kang is the last of the Earthrealm warriors in the tournament.

Liu Kang screams out in anger over the death of his best friend, but before Liu Kang can act rashly, Raiden steps in and tells him to channel this anger against his opponents. By winning a few more matches, he will have his chance to fight and kill Goro. This leads into a montage of Liu Kang fighting against the last Outworld champions. He beats them savagely, but like before, he refuses to kill them. Kano, now hanging around the Outworlders rather than those from Earthrealm, mocks Liu Kang for continuing to have mercy despite the death of his friend. Liu Kang assures him that Goro is the one who will be the target of his rage, not the others, and that Goro will pay dearly.

Liu Kang ends up advancing to the point where he may fight Goro. Shang Tsung admits he never thought another Earthrealm fighter would make it this far, but assures Liu Kang that he will die just as Kung Lao did. Liu Kang is dropped into Goro's quarters, and after a short exchange showing that Goro respect's Liu Kang's need to avenge his friend, they begin to fight.

After an intense action scene, Liu Kang finishes Goro by shoving his flaming fist into Goro's chest. Goro dies, but before he dies he tells Liu Kang that he won honorably and that he is the true champion of Mortal Kombat. Liu Kang returns to Shang Tsung's chambers, where everyone is waiting, holding Goro's heart in his hand.

Shang Tsung is outraged, and in a last ditch attempt to secure the victory for Outworld, challenges Liu Kang himself as a final challenge. During the following action scene, Shang Tsung uses his powers to take the forms of Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Reptile, Sonya, Johnny Cage, and Kano to fight Liu Kang. Liu Kang gains the upper hand, and Shang Tsung lays defeated. He looks up at Liu Kang and transforms into Kung Lao, mockingly saying "Go ahead. Finish me." Liu Kang contemplates killing the sorcerer for a moment, before settling on kicking him in the head to knock him out.

Raiden looks up to the sky as a golden light shines downward, signaling the Elder God's recognition of Earthrealm's victory in Mortal Kombat. Shang Tsung gets up and creates a portal to Outworld, telling Raiden that Earthrealm will one day fall to the emperor, before stepping through the portal. Reptile and Shang Tsung's guards follow him through. Sonya steps forward towards Kano in order to capture him, but he throws his knife at her, causing her to recoil, and runs through the portal himself.

Raiden, Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, and Sonya are next seen at the Shaolin Temple, gathered with many monks at Kung Lao's grave, next to the grave of the Great Kung Lao and all the other monks killed in the Mortal Kombat tournaments over the centuries. Raiden tries to comfort Liu Kang by telling him that as Mortal Kombat champion, he has successfully defended the realm from Outworld's absorption for at least another 500 years. Liu Kang is still unhappy, however, as his cousin and best friend was just killed.

As Liu Kang walks away, Raiden thanks Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade for their service in protection of Earthrealm. He assures Sonya that he will do all he can to track down Kano in Outworld, and Johnny entertains himself with the idea of turning this story into a movie. Raiden tells them that while the tournament is over, Outworld always poses a threat, and requests that they lend their help if it is ever needed. They both agree.

Meanwhile, Shang Tsung is seen in an Outworld castle, in chains and being escorted by two Tarkatans. Reptile and Kano trail behind him, though they aren't bound. Shang Tsung is forces to kneel in front of a throne, where a loud booming voice demands he explain himself and how he managed to lose the last needed tournament to take over Earthrealm. Shang Tsung grovels for his life, and begs to be spared. One Tarkatan readies his blade over Shang Tsung head, but when Shang Tsung says he has a plan that could give them control of Earthrealm in a matter of months, the Tarkatan is ordered to lower his blade. The camera turns to show Shao Kahn on his throne, as he says to Shang Tsung "Go on..."

After the credits, Scorpion is shown in the Netherrealm, watching the flames burn the souls of the damned. Quan Chi appears behind him, and tells him he should be happy as he had his revenge. Scorpion replies with "And it is hollow..." Quan Chi ignores this, saying "Come, Scorpion. We have work to do. The emperor of Outworld has requested our presence..."
