Iker Casillas announces his intention to run for the post of president of RFEF. #IKERCASILLAS2020

That's right, but them being in the Liga drove TV and Marketing rights to another level that allowed the more humble teams to make much more money than they were before, thus allowing them to be able to pay and spend more on players to bring the quality up. It's no surprise that the best years of Spanish football in the last few decades has been with the two of them here.

Yes, other stars will come to Madrid and Barcelona, we have the historical benefit of who the teams are and their appeal, but as proven, it's hard to compete with PSG and City when they have "unlimited" amounts of money. So yes, those two teams have to be UEFA sanctioned hard as hell to allow fair competition in Europe. And part of that is making European football more entertaining to fans around the world.

Just for argument's sake:

  1. Have a League winner, but also have a postseason trophy for the top teams to have a sudden death tournament over 2-3 weeks. Viewership will be up and so will sweet, sweet marketing $s.
  2. Teams like Bilbao, Real Sociedad, Sevilla, Betis, Getafe, Valencia will have much higher chances of winning the postseason mini-tournament. That winner could be given the 4th CL spot or an EL spot if they didn't qualify for it, similar to the Copa del Rey.
  3. The Spanish SuperCup, has the winner of the league, winner of the CdR, Winner of Postseason, and whoever was runner up in either league or CdR. Anyone that wins more than one of these has the spot fall to the next highest-ranked team in the league.
  4. Increases revenues tremendously, competitiveness, and viewership. Add on top of the experience the players get in high stress/pressure situations such as that postseason. So that when they get into the latter stages of International competitions they already have experience with high-pressure situations, something they might not usually get in some of the teams who don't play Europe regularly.
  5. With more "winners", more attraction to the league and mid-tier teams by better players. And thus hopefully boosting some of the revenue sources above. While frustrating for some, it can help smaller teams grow. Just look at the Titans in the NFL this year, a smaller team that worked miracles to make it to the AFC finals beating the Pats and the Ravens.

Just some ideas to help increase revenues and viewership after Messi retires/leaves Barcelona, which seems more and more likely each day with the shitshow Bartomeu has going on., Oh and by the way, Tebas in the past has mentioned that the league was considering this as a long term opportunity for the league.
