Immigration is a net economic benefit – this is a story Canada should build on

The food analogy is a good one. Like food, immigration is not inherently good. It only has the potential to be good. The net benefit of economic growth must be compared to the negative aspects of accepting newcomers. For example, in the case of Germany, the negative aspect of welcoming newcomers is having a net increase of sexual assaults.

There's also the issue of people not finding the economic benefit argument persuaive. The people who are strongly against immigration care more about the socitial implications of accepting immigrants from different cultures. One of the reasons why Brexit was succesful was due to Farage discussing immigration openly while the Remain camp ignored the immigration issue and presented an economic arugment. Coyne loves to make the same mistake - Canada's media establishment must stop viewing immigration through an economic lense. But, honeslty, I can't blame them - it's easier to celebrate or critize immigration via economics since it's less likely smear tactics will be used against them.

Anyways, I digress. Looks like the narrative of immigration good, nationalism bad is in full swing in Canada. It's almost like the there's no diveristy of opinion in Canada media!
