Introducing Apollo, a brand new Reddit experience for iOS. Gorgeous, iOS centric design, an incredible Media Viewer, fully customizable gestures, a full Markdown editor, and sculpted by thousands of Redditors. (xpost r/Apple)

First impressions: As a long die-hard Narwhal fan, this might win me over, too early to tell though.

What I like over Narwhal:

  • Icons. Narwhal’s share sheets are huge lists of text (and they lower cap everything), super hard to read. Apollo has icons.
  • Same for Settings. Narwhal was a simple app at first, then they started adding unnecessary amounts of new features and crammed and crammed everything into the Advanced submenu. Can’t find anything. Apollo has icons.
  • Swipe forward and backwards. Love it. You can open a post, go back to the post feed, and back into the post again without losing your context.
  • Content filters seem to sync with the web site. Narwhal’s is local. I’ve had to recreate my filters several times after switching phones.

Other impressions:

  • Posts and comments feel more cluttered compared to Narwhal. But most of it is stuff I don’t need to see.
  • The indentation and color scheme was super hard to get used to. I constantly lost my place. Think I’ll get used to this the more I use it.
  • Selection mode is nice. It’s a weird solution but hey, Narwhal can’t select text.

I’ll keep using this for now and see if it’ll continue to work for me. So far, so good.
