I lived around not far from downtown kelowna and worked downtown and had to stop listening to my music while I was walking to work because it wasn't safe to not be 100% aware of my surroundings, though my creepiest encounters were always on the bus when some weirdo would sit next to me. My bf got beat up by some guy with a baseball bat in downtown too because he took a shortcut through an alley and stopped to light a smoke and I guess someone decided he was too close to their car and they attacked him.

My advice is save your music for the gym or long bus rides and keep your ears open when walking around, just having them in can make you a target because they already know your not paying attention to your surroundings.

Also, not sure what part of town your in or work at, but if you're downtown I'd take note of the Downtown Patrol cell number as they offer a service to walk you to your car if you don't feel safe.
