As a short woman, my first defence is talking my way out of something and my second is running faster than other people, third is being strong. But I don't kid myself. Men start off with a strength advantage so you can to work really hard to match them. I can outrun a decent percentage of men though which gives me some confidence (verified by comparing fun run times :)
