Jon Stewart on Charleston: “By acknowledging it, by staring into that and seeing it for what it is, we still won’t do jackshit."

Gun laws. Gun laws. Gun laws.

I'm also just one guy, and I don't get very political on most issues, but I do know about my own experiences. I know that I am a three time felon. Three times I was convicted of violent crimes that constituted felony status. I have assault after assault after assault convictions at the misdemeanor level. I have a history of mental health issues. I've been in therapy since as long as I can remember and was on medication before my balls dropped for Christ sakes. Since all of my convictions were before I turned 18, and because mental health status doesn't even show up on a background check unless you have been committed, I've not only been able to purchase three fucking handguns (waiting only a half hour each time from walk in to walk out with a deadly fucking weapon), but I have a permit to legally carry and conceal those weapons. I can walk into a gun shop today and purchase any array of ridiculous weapons - assault rifles with armor piercing ammunition, drum-fed fucking shotguns...the list goes on.

I know this is a somewhat backward-looking argument, but it really illustrates a point. What the hell is wrong when someone is able to do this? I'm outing myself here...not to brag, but to show just how fucked up gun control is in this country. It's absolutely fucking sickening.

Tightening our belts on how easily myself and people like me are so easily able to legally obtain weapons meant for nothing other than killing is certainly not the answer to all of our problems here, but we need to start somewhere, and I can think of no better place.

Just my two, not terribly popular, pennies.
