So this just happened on Irish tv....

My son has autism. He's on the lower scale, and it has gotten much better with age, but he would say equally inappropriate things like this when he was younger. I'll never forget being at his best friend's funeral (He was the only kid my son ever had connected with, the little boy had a rare form of cancer and died). At the funeral, his parents had little cards to write a note on, and place in a box, as a letter to heaven to the little boy. My son wrote, "Have fun in Heaven". I thought about not letting him place it in the box, knowing his parents would read that note. I couldn't do it. I allowed him to place it in the box. The boys mom was a Special Ed teacher, and she knew my son, and knew they had a very special friendship, she would understand. It was one of the hardest decisions I've ever made, allowing him to write that, knowing she would one day read that note. I can't imagine my son being on TV at that age. I feel bad for his parents and for the judgement that they're going to receive because of this. As much as we like to think that our kids, like and are kind to all kids, it's just simply not true. Kids naturally weed out the different ones. This kid will be like the plague to other kids now, if he wasn't already, especially when their parents see this.
