Trade Tobias?

Vuc + Tobias for Crowder+Olynyk+BOS pick

This might sound like too much to give up for a lot of you. I really like Tobias. I think he does a lot of things that go unnoticed by the boxscore and common fan. I propose this out of the interest of conversation. Crowder is really good, and a really good value. Every Boston fan I've heard claims he has been far and away Boston's best player this year.

  • Only 25
  • Locked up until 2019-2020 on an insanely good deal. ~6.5-8 mill a year
  • Plays elite wing defense on strong SF like Lebron, PG
  • Can shoot it from 3. 35% on 4.8 attempts. 52% efg%

As good as Vuc is, he just doesn't fit with this team. I think in the future we need to look to a real defensive center. Olynyk isn't the defensive solution, but he brings incredible shooting from the 3pt line at the C spot. His defense is also respectable. The more glaring issue with our team is spacing and scoring.

  • 25 years old, on a rookie contract
  • Drtg of 101. Is a part of one of the best defenses in the league and plays the center position (without a shot blocking 4), showing if he's surrounded with good defensive pieces, he is serviceable.
  • Shoots 42% 3pt on over 5 attempts. 54% eFG%. This is by far better than anyone on our team in terms of volume and percentage. (our best is Evan @ 39% on 5 attempts, with a 53% eFG%
  • Will open the paint for elf and dipo to get to the rim, where they are most effective. Even though Vuc can space out to midrange well, defenses still sag off and give him the shot. Midrange twos are poison for offenses in the modern NBA. You absolutely cannot sag off Olynyk, threes are too valuable.

The pick I throw in there because I do believe Vuc+Tobey are worth more than Crowder+Olynyk. It would probably be the BOS pick, so a later first rounder.

We still need to go out and get a big who can protect the rim, but as stated above Olynyk has shown he can be part of a top NBA defense. Vuc has not shown that. The opposite actually. A team of Olynyk, AG, Crowder, Evan, Dipo/Elf seems like a very deadly modern NBA unit.
