The division in  the comments is confusing to me.

Some are blaming the car for stopping and i saw a suggestion they swerve into another lane to avoid the tire. That would likely just cause more chaos.

This is where I might get more heat, but even the people on the road doesn't seem too unreasonable. there is a cut in the video, so the cars were likely all stopped for half a minute or so? It's a clear day and I don't see how even a truck wouldn't have had enough time to notice and slow down. I still wouldn't get out until I was sure there was sufficient traffic stopped behind a crash first though. Even then, there would have to be good a reason.

I'm not saying you can just stop your car in the middle of the highway for any reason or that it, even in an emergency, is safe. But it's the safest thing to do in this situation, in my opinion.

I'm curious to hear what others think so let me know if you have a different perspective.
