It all depends on how the WFG people you meet run their business. Some guys don't recruit anyone at all, they just make their money from sales. I'm not involved with them, but I can tell it's better than a lot of other MLM's. They sell financial products and services, so in a lot of cases they're just an intermediary between you and say a mutual fund. A lot of mutual funds rely on companies like WFG for customers. They focus on their investments and compliance, and let other people handle the sales.

I don't know how WFG's products compare to it's competitors, so I can't tell you if it's cheaper or not. But I do know it's nothing like other MLM's which really are pyramid schemes. The main difference is this: those other MLM's have a low priced product which they require their recruits to buy as inventory. Quite often the product(s) are no better than anything you find in your local stores. And quite often they're way more expensive. They promote some 'magical' quality about the product to try to justify the high price. Then they go out and try to recruit as many people as possible into the business in order to sell inventory. You have to buy some inventory as part of joining the business. Amway, Organogold, and Monavie are three MLM's I was invited to check out by people in my Network. All of them fit the bill, and I never once joined any of them.

WFG is not really like this. For one, they sell investments and insurance. If new recruits had to buy a ton of investments first..well this isn't really a bad thing. They have a business structure which is different from some of their competitors, but it works for some people. You can do the exact same work at any major Canadian Bank actually. The banks will try to sell only their mutual funds, whereas WFG will sell you Mutual funds from a variety of places. Again, I've never actually checked into what the costs are of going through WFG vs their competitors, so I don't know if it's the best place to shop. I just know it's not really a pyramid scheme, though they adopt the MLM structure, so some people may purely focus on the recruiting thing and then get those people to make their sales.
