Kutcharitaville: The Obituary: Rest In Peace Oswald Carlos "Kutchie" Pelaez, Jr.

There's no proof that alleged neuro-diverse individual ever existed. It's only legend. But we do know Kutchie was real and the original posts contained very specific details about the business, it's pet lizard, it's many branding phases, menu items, and celebrity visitors, that only Mr Peleaz would know as well as the author did. The many posts were also written by someone with a huge love for Kutchie's wife.

So what's the chances it was written by some alleged random that nobody has ever gotten a handle on, who knows EVERYTHING about Kutchie's life but who is not Kutchie? As opposed to being the restaurant owner himself? Seems very slim. It's been acknowledged by the family in the obituary that he was an artist and a poet, and he loved to sit down with his loved ones over slices of key lime pie. And, he worked on behalf of the restaurant until the day he died, the obituary explained. It seemed he had MS and was ill for a long time before he passed.

A few years ago, a redditor wrote that he had gotten in touch with Kutchie over the phone by calling him at home, and Kutchie had told him that the restaurant would be re-opening, which of course has not happened, as he has passed, but then he had told the redditor he was tired and had to get off the phone. That rang true with all of this, him not being well, but hanging onto his past glory despite his ill health.

It's easy for me to imagine, a vibrant poet and creator of community, loving his family, his restaurant, and the memories right up until the very end of his life. While he was sick from MS and his health was failing it was probably his love of this restaurant and the memories there which kept him going. Through the posts he kept it alive. And others posted in tribute, as well. I believe that a few of the posters on the obituary guest book have posted in tribute as well, because I see familiar type styles in the commentary. I suspect some close family and caretakers got in on the fun.
