Well no, people who don't get migraines don't intuitively understand what it's like... lucky bastards. Unfortunately it's on us to try and explain what's helpful and what is not without getting angry at them, since from their standpoint we go from feeling fine to being miserable for no apparent reason.

One thing that's worked for me as well as a good friend of mine is enlisting our SO's in identifying prodrome symptoms... i.e. if I'm being a jerk to my wife and picking fights with her over little things she usually asks how my head feels. She's not always nice about it but even if she's (rightfully) mad at me the question "ARE YOU GETTING A MIGRAINE?" is usually enough to make me realize I need to go pop an Imitrex and go lay down for a bit and then go apologize and thank her for catching it early.
