LAOP's ex wife won the lottery. He doesn't understand why she won't share.

even if she is ridiculously wealthy the other parent still has an obligation to contribute to their child's care. Even if it is a small amount, even if the other parent could easily foot that bill and then some.

I'm honestly not being an asshole, but I really don't understand why this is the case.

The whole point of child support is that it's about ensuring that the needs of the child are met. The child comes first. If the lottery winning mom has 100% custody and the kids' needs are 100% met, why is it necessary to make the other parent pay their $35 (or whatever) child support? I can understand the moral argument, but not the legal one.
